This is an archive of the Treatment Action Campaign's public documents from December 1998 until October 2008. I created this website because the TAC's website appears unmaintained and people were concerned that it
was becoming increasingly hard to find important documents.

The menu items have been slightly edited and a new stylesheet applied to the site. But none of the documents have been edited, not even for minor errors. The text appears on this site as obtained from the Internet Archive.

The period covered by the archive encompassed the campaign for HIV medicines, the civil disobedience campaigns, the Competition Commission complaints, the 2008 xenophobic violence and the PMTCT, Khayelitsha health workers and Matthias Rath court cases.

TAC NATIONAL JOBS (closing date : 5 March 2007)

DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Based in Johannesburg.

Main responsibilities:

Strategic planning and budgeting; proposal and report writing, maintaining communications with donors, communication with key programme and provincial staff members in the organisation, designing and implementing monitoring and evaluation systems.

Requirements:

-Excellent writing skills
-organized and hard worker
-experience with fund raising

ASSISTANT TO THE GENERAL SECRETARY

Based in Cape Town.

Main responsibilities:

Administrative and secretarial support for the GS of TAC, including but not limited to diary management, telephonic and email communications, logistics organising, project management and filing. Also some applied research, literature reviews, background drafting of letters, speeches and press statements.

Requirements:

-Excellent administrative skills and experience.

MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Based in Cape Town.

Main responsibilities:

Working closely with the TAC General Secretary to liaise with the media, including responding to requests by journalists and referring these calls to key spokespersons in TAC, writing and editing press statements and doing background research for current issues, designing and implementing internal and external communications strategies for the organisation.

Requirements:

-Excellent skills in verbal and written communications and an understanding of communications strategy, the media, and the political environment.

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

Based in Cape Town.

Main responsibilities:

Strategic HR management for the organisation including recruitment, staff induction, writing contracts and job descriptions, salary management, overseeing HR administrative functions, staff performance evaluation, staff development and disciplinary matters.

Requirements:

-a good understanding of key HR issues and labour laws
-good communication skills
-a track record of management
-taking initiative
-and high performance

REGIONAL ORGANISERS (2 POSITIONS : COASTAL PROVINCES AND INLAND PROVINCES)

Coastal regional Coordinator to be based in Cape Town.

Inland regional Coordinator to be based in Johannesburg.

Main responsibilities:

Provide training support to the provinces (especially the organisers) on the content of current provincial and national campaigns; conduct induction trainings for PEC and District Working Committees; Give assitance to staff to run campaign and advocacy work in their province; to speak on behalf of TAC on public forums and in the media; to work on implementing national TAC campaigns, including the womens access to justice campaign; to assist TAC provinces in preparations for their provincial congresses and the national congress; to provide supervision and mentoring for provincial coordinators, and organisers.

MPUMALANGA TREATMENT LITERACY COORDINATOR

Based in Nelspruit.

Responsibilities:

Treatment literacy training, coordinating the TL programme in the province including, management of TL trainers and practitioners, scheduling key trainings for TAC branches and partner organisations, placement and coordination of TL practitioners at ARV sites, developing strategic partnerships with key organisations in the province, and using TL as a means of mobilising health and community activists.

Requirements:

-Excellent knowledge of HIV/ AIDS, treatment literacy and the public health system.
-Experience in mobilising people, and facilitating community development
-A good understanding of the functioning of TAC in the province.
-Responsible, reliable and hard working,
-Good communication skills, including the ability to speak fluently in local languages.
-An understanding of the gender dynamics and challenges faced in South Africa
-Ability to use a computer and to write reports
-A drivers license would be an advantage.
-Preference will be given to people living in /or with a good knowledge of Enhlanzeni district in Mpumalanga.

KWAZULU NATAL TREATMENT LITERACY COORDINATOR

Based in Durban.

Responsibilities:

KWAZULU NATAL TREATMENT PROJECT COORDINATOR

Based in Durban.

Responsibilities:

Coordinating the Treatment Project, which is an independent organisation working within TAC to provide treatment directly for people living with AIDS. He / She will direct the day to day operations of the TP in the province to achieve agreed upon deliverables for the project in the province, as well as developing the project within key designated districts, and establishing partnerships with key organisations and health workers.

Requirements:

-An excellent understanding of the medical aspects of HIV treatment, and the current state of the implementation of the Operational Plan for Treatment.
-At least 3 years experience in managing a project – including planning and budgeting, setting objectives, implementation workplans, as well as reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
-A good understanding of the work of TAC in the province.
-Excellent understanding of current health policy and legislative environment, and social / political issues relating to HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention.
-Preference will be given to people living in and /or with a good knowledge of Ethekweni district in KwaZulu Natal.

EASTERN CAPE PROVINCIAL ORGANISER

Based in East London.

Responsibilities:

The development of TAC volunteers and branches in the province; ensuring that branches understand the objectives of TAC, and what they can do to carry out the work of TAC; to lead TAC provincial and local campaigns and initiatives as per the plans for the province; and to work closely with the treatment literacy coordinator and practitioners to follow up with mobilising people that have been trained in treatment literacy.

-Excellent knowledge of HIV/ AIDS and the public health system.
-Experience in mobilising people, and facilitating community development
-A good understanding of the work and the membership of TAC in the province.
-Responsible, reliable and hard working
-Good communication skills, including the ability to speak fluently in local languages.

-Preference will be given to people living in and /or with a good knowledge of the Eastern Cape.

EASTERN CAPE TREATMENT LITERACY ADMINISTRATOR

Based in East London.

Responsibilities:

To perform or assist in the administrative duties necessary for the efficient and effective running of the TL programme of the province. He / she will handle provincial finances including issuing cheque requisitions, managing cash advances and petty cash payments, paying bills on behalf of the programme and reconciling cash expenditure in good time. Also basic office administration, filing, logistics and events management, taking minutes of meetings, keeping the TL coordinators diary and providing administrative support to the TL coordinator. Assisting the TL Coordinator with regular and quality reporting on the programme.

Requirements:

-Minimum 2 years administrative work experience.
-Good communication skills and a professional work ethic.
-Excellent track record in financial management and an good understanding of excellent record keeping, and handling day to day financial transactions. -The person must be able to communicate well with community members and volunteers.
-Responsible, reliable and hard working
-Ability to use a computer and to write reports

QUEENSTOWN DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR

Based in Queenstown.

Responsibilities:

To perform or assist in the administrative duties necessary for the efficient and effective running of the district office. He / she will handle provincial finances including issuing cheque requisitions, managing cash advances and petty cash payments, paying bills on behalf of the programme and reconciling cash expenditure in good time. Also basic office administration, filing, logistics and events management, taking minutes of meetings, working closely with the district organiser, including providing administrative support to him. Assisting the District organiser with regular and quality reporting on the district.

Requirements:

-Minimum 2 years administrative work experience.
-Good communication skills and a professional work ethic.
-Excellent track record in financial management and an good understanding of excellent record keeping, and handling day to day financial transactions. -The person must be able to communicate well with community members and volunteers.
-Responsible, reliable and hard working
-Ability to use a computer and to write reports
-Preference will be given to people living in and /or with a good knowledge of Chris Hani district in the Eastern Cape.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

- 12 month contract, renewable dependent on performance and funding, 3 months probation.
- Total Cost to Company Package : Negotiable within the appropriate TAC salary grade depending on experience, and candidates previous salary
