URGENT PRESS RELEASE, Nov 21st 2001 TAC TO ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MOBILISATION SUPPORTING COURT CASE BRIEFING FOR PRESS ON LEGAL ISSUES IN THE CASE On November 26 and 27 2001, the TAC will meet the government in the Pretoria High Court to challenge the government's refusal to provide medicines that are safe and affordable and which can reduce the risk of transmission of HIV/AIDS between mother and child. TAC regrets that, after four years of advocacy, it was left with no alternative than to initiate legal proceedings. Now we are going to court to seek an order that will stop the violation of rights and compel the government to fulfill its constitutional obligations. Access to health care services that are effective, affordable and save lives is a right. This is a significant and historic court case. The press conference will also announce details of TAC's three day mobilization in SA and internationally, beginning on November 25th.
